Emergencies: Call 911

Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 - National line for youth support and assistance.

Most support and contact lines are local or provincial, please refer to the websites below for the support lines in your province:

South Korea

  • In an emergency, please call 119 (the line for medical emergencies). When a foreigner makes a 119 call they are directed to a translator from the Korea National Tourist Organization via a three-way call; Available languages include English, Japanese and Chinese. Ambulance services are provided free of charge.
  • 112 - line for police

To talk things over with someone, and/or for referral to other services, please call:

  • Counsel24: provides 24-hour counselling and mental health support for people in South Korea who are depressed or at risk of suicide. Tel: 1566-2525
  • Lifeline Korea: 24-hour telephone service to people in South Korea who are depressed or at risk of suicide. Tel: 1588-9191

  • Ministry of Health & Welfare Call Center: 24-hour service to people in South Korea who are depressed or at risk of suicide. Tel: 129
  • List of other hotlines for various crises (LGBT, domestic violence, etc.)

General Tip for non-native speakers / foreigners in ANY country:

If you are in a country where you don't speak the language, it can be hard to find crisis hotlines available to you. In Korea, the hotlines sometimes have available English speakers, and sometimes they don't. I'd recommend using an online crisis chat service WITH a VPN. Example: You may be blocked from using a USA-based chat service if you're outside the USA, but a VPN bypasses this restriction. If you can't afford a VPN, HolaVPN extension on Chrome usually works and is free.
